About The Program
The goal of our Leadership in Loudon Program is to identify and support leaders in the community.
The nomination period begins in October, Invitations are sent to nominees in November, and class is determined by end of December. Orientation starts in February and graduation is in November.
Classes are held on the third Tuesday of each month beginning in February with an Orientation. March is overnight trip to Nashville, April – November features: Local Government, Public Safety, Education, Tourism, Agriculture, Health Care, Social Services, and Business and Industry – Graduation is in November. The class is responsible for a class project and attending a school board meeting, a county
commission meeting (as a group) and a city council meeting. You can miss two classes and still graduate, but you are responsible for getting with a classmate and writing a report covering the day that you missed.
The cost of the class is $1,000 and that covers all your expense (transportation to/from and overnight in Nashville with three meals, lunches during class days, graduation). The program is operated by the Foundation and your class leader is Leadership Coordinator Klair Kimmey.
How To Get Involved
- Participants are nominated by Alumni, Chamber Leadership and Foundation Leadership
- Must be 18+ to be nominated
What is Leadership Loudon County?
- Leadership Loudon County, a program of the Loudon County Education Foundation, was created to educate and develop current and future leaders. It gives participants an in-depth exposure to state government and the local community for the purpose of promoting and facilitating active involvement in community organizations.
- Leadership Loudon County – began in 1999 and has graduated over 200 Leaders since that time.
- Leadership Loudon County’s success demonstrates our community’s commitment to continuous improvement and growth. It also serves as an assurance that we are utilizing our current human resources to invest in and develop today’s and tomorrow’s leaders.
What can I expect to Learn as a Leadership Loudon County Participant?
- As a Leadership Loudon County participate, you will learn what makes our community “tick.” The program will familiarize you with the internal and external factors that shape and mold community decision making. It will expose you to the economic sectors making the largest direct and indirect impacts on the community.
- Leadership Loudon County provides an opportunity to review and enhance Leadership skills through experiences and activities.
- A key ingredient to a successful leader is knowing who the other successful community leaders are and how to reach them. Participants will meet leaders at each venue visited, will have exposure to fellow leaders in the class, as well as sharing their own resources, experiences, contacts, and skills with the class.
- You will have the opportunity to become part of an ongoing Leadership Loudon County Alumni Association you can draw upon for resources to increase your leadership effectiveness in the future.
